2013-01-30 · Not sure how easy they are to find anymore but when yours truly first started out I used a Mankel anvil. It was only about 90# but had the size and mass of a bigger anvil. Weight was kept down by it being hollow. It was kinda handy to throw around and Lord knows I sure shod a lot of horses with it. They're nice anvils if you can find them anymore.

They're nice anvils if you can find them anymore. Made from Ductile Iron microscopically tested to meet specs with EVERY pour! This anvil has a Round Horn.

He said it weighs 125 lbs. I have Googled Mankel anvils and read some older threads on them and I see they are good anvils (with the exception of the stolen castings but I don't know when that was, or if there will be a date on this one). I also read that Mr Mankel was still around a few years ago and I might give him a call.

A foundry near him was casting the anvil and then he heat treated and finished them in his shop. I talked to him a few weeks ago. He said some were 4140 and some were 8630, but I could be wrong on that last number. You can still buy them new for around $4/lb U.S.. They are nice working anvils.
